Lenses for Landscapes really matter as each lens will change the way you compose your photographs. You will get completely different views with each lens. Wide angles let you emphasize different elements compared to telephotos and things like aperture and sharpness will also vary.
Consider what you are wanting when you view a landscape – do you want that big wide view or do you want to focus in on a smaller section. Visualize what you want and that will help you decide what lens to use.
If you’re looking to photograph almost any type of landscapes, there are about four different lenses that are very useful:
- 14mm f/2.8: A wide-angle, wide-aperture lens for astrophotography
- 16-35mm f/4: Intended for the most important range of wide angle shots
- 24-70mm f/4 or 24-124mm f/4: Meant as a walk-around lens for normal focal lengths
- 70-200mm f/4 or a 100-400mm f/4: Ideal for capturing distant landscapes and isolating subjects
Lens I like for Landscape:
Canon EF 24–105mm f/4L II USM Lens – This is my go to lens. It can go fairly wide and works for many landscape opportunities but I can also zoom in some.
You need a wide angle for those big views and it comes in real handy for waterfall photography
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras – This is my wide angle lens.
Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Lens for Canon SLR Cameras I love this lens for superwide. There is less distortion with it, also its great for focusing close on the foreground and getting a wide background also.
Tamron Super Wide Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 (works with crop sensor) this is a wonderful lens for crop sensor cameras. I have done lots of night photography with it.
For night photography you need a fast lens to let more light in – I enjoy my the Sigma as its very sharp and allows me to go wide also as well a being a fast lens.
Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for Canon EF
You can do landscapes with zoom also:
Canon 100-400mm
Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2
RF lens are in my future and I will slowly start adding them to my arsenal.
